Catalan violinist Laura Urteaga and Argentine pianist and composer Sebastián Macchi present Abismario. A new original repertoire of free pieces specially conceived for the duo, Abismario blends influences from chamber music, classical, contemporary, and popular music.
The repertoire consists of compositions by Sebastián Macchi, and each work has a unique and profound melodic identity, like songs without words, forming a universe of textures and atmospheres that lead to dreamlike worlds.
The repertoire was developed by the Duo between 2022 and 2024, a period during which violinist Laura Urteaga resided in the city of Paraná (Argentina). Through a process of meticulous and dynamic rehearsing, numerous variations were tested, erased and rewritten until the polished ideas finally found their path in Abismario.
In the manner of a suite, these pieces tell a story; they unfold in a careful treatment of textures, counterpoints, timbres, and dynamics that, in turn, coexist with jazz-like harmonic language and improvisation and the rhythmic focus of South American music.
